One year ago five friends (Trey Schibli, Theo Klein, Alec Donkin, Cole Miller, Chris Corsico) moved to New York City to expand their horizons and make music together as the dance electro-pop rock group, argonaut&wasp. The result of that life-changing experience is their new EP, Ha! Fiction, consisting of four tracks with plenty of reference to influentials like Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, The Clash, Daft Punk, Hot Chip, BadBadNotGood - the list goes on. At the bow of the EP is a glorious celebratory track entitled 'Paisley', which embraces energised synth-rock. The track encourages movement from the first drumbeat, perhaps a toe-tap or nod to begin with while listening to the Saturday night narrative. A sense of expectation builds within the initial one minute thirty seconds before a crash of cymbals and a heavy-handed electric guitar chord signals a moment of opportunity. Inspired by a girl with a “TV smile” the night ascends into indie-rock rhythms before launching into the full blown chaos of wah-wah guitars and breakdown percussion.
